Alright, so, here's the deal: About a month ago I was watching some series with Malakin on stream, and despite being set to invisible and not having any other viewers, I got hit by a hitbox perma ban. Now, hitbox was working for us quite fine for a long time, but I cannot risk getting more bans as I might end up being IP blocked, and in general it is more trouble than it's worth. So, I considered switching back to streamup. However, streamup appears just as laggy and impossible to use as it did before when we moved away from it, so it is no longer a possibility either. Justin has been nuked, and Twitch has automatic bans for movies. Livestream is probably just as garbage as before too and I don't want to use Windows just to stream.
So, this leads us to the next solution: no more streams. Instead of this, everyone will have to download the movie ahead of time for now. I might write up a streaming application at some point, but I don't have the time for it now and not in the foreseeable future either. So how do we do this? Well, there's a thing called "VPN". What this does is allow machines all over the internet to act as if they were connected via a local cable. In other words, it allows you to connect to my private machine that is not accessible via the public internet. Additionally, it is encrypted so that the traffic cannot be read. This means it is safe to download stuff from, and you should thus not have to fear any repercussions.
In order to access the VPN you will need OpenVPN and a certificate that I have to create for you personally. For those who do not have a certificate yet, I will send you an email with it and precise instructions on how to set everything up soon. Do *not* lose that email or its contents or somehow make it public; otherwise someone else could lock you out and pretend to be you. The email will also contain a description on how to access the NAS, which is a storage server that will host the movies for you to download.
If you have any other questions on how things will work or troubles with setting up or using the VPN, let me know.
